We traveled out to the lighthouse today, Thursday 21-Aug-2014. There were about 6 bidders on the trip. We left S. Freeport public dock on the Atlantic Seal. It towed an 18' skiff behind it for the 1 hour trip.
We loaded the skiff with 4 people each trip and make about 5 trips. The rockiy landing was extremely challenging and very slippery but we all made it in one piece without slipping away.
Here are some pics of the island and 140 year old lighthouse.
The US Federal Governement has now set 21-Aug as the date of the inspection of the lighthouse. This is analogous of you doing a home inspection before you decide to purchase a new (used) home. It is a huge fixer upper for sure.
Once we sign away our life and give a waiver indicating if we get injured, eaten by sharks or fall down the stairs, the government is not liable. Ouch!

Except this is an inspection on steriods. You have to sign your life away with waivers inorder to go out on the trip.
And of course, access and landing depends on the tide, wind, seas and weather.
It ain't easy landing on a remote ledge in the middle of the ocean!
